July 21, 2018 - Josh Richards Battles to LOLMDS Runner-Up Finish at Brown County Speedway
1Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) competition took Best Performance Motorsports and Josh Richards north to Brown County Speedway (Aberdeen, South Dakota) on Tuesday night for a $10,000-to-win event.

After finishing second in his heat race, Richards earned the seventh-starting spot for the 50-lap finale. He patiently worked his way forward through the field throughout the feature before making a late-race charge to a runner-up finish behind Earl Pearson Jr. Bobby Pierce, Ricky Weiss and Don O'Neal completed the Top-5 finishers.

On Wednesday evening Josh entered his first-ever event at the state-of-the-art Jackson Motorplex (Jackson, Minnesota). With 24 entries on hand for the $10,000-to-win event, Josh won his heat race to earn the outside-front-row starting spot for the Sturdevant's Auto Parts 50.

He raced in the Top-5 throughout the feature before crossing the finish line in the third position behind Scott Bloomquist and Jonathan Davenport.

"They have done a tremendous job here with this facility. The track raced great," Richards commented after his second-straight podium finish. "The bottom was dominant for a while then the top came into it. On one of the restarts my carburetor stumbled there a little bit. We had a good hot-rod tonight. I was watching the water temperature close there at the end. I don't know if Scott slowed up at the end, but me and Davenport really closed in on him. This is a beautiful place. I hope we get to come here more often."

1On Thursday night the actin shifted to Nebraska's I-80 Speedway, where a promising start to the night for Richards quickly went sour. After setting fast time in his qualifying group, Josh was leading his heat race, when he suffered a mechanical failure. The team scrambled to a back-up car, and Richards charged from the tail of the field to win his B-Main, which positioned him 18th on the starting grid for the feature.

Josh clawed his way to a ninth-place finish in the 50-lap, $10,000-to-win finale.

On Friday night double heat races were held as preliminary action for the $53,000-to-win, 8th annual Imperial Tile Silver Dollar Nationals was contested. Bad luck found Richards in the first round of heats, when he was collected in an early-race melee, which caused damage to his entry. He was able to continue, but with a wounded car was only able to manage a seventh-place finish. In the second round of heats he advanced from the fifth-starting spot to a fourth-place finish.

With the Top-18 in passing points locking into Saturday's feature, Josh fell short of the mark in the 25th position. As a result he was forced to run a B-Main. Richards' luck wouldn't improve any in the B-Main as he was collected in an early-race caution while running third. The car received heavy damage and the team thrashed to get ready for the feature.

After starting 27th on the grid Josh battled an ill-handling car throughout the event before ultimately retiring to a 19th-place finish in the late stages of the 80-lap affair.
